Day 6
We left Dee Dee and Jim’s and decided to put in a heavy travel day and rolled into the Lazy Days Campground off of I-380 in Cedar Point, Iowa. It was a relatively new, sparkling clean facility set amidst …you guess it….thousands of acres of corn fields. No problem getting a level site here. We got a good night’s sleep and headed out early for Mitchell, SD the next day
Day 7
We arrived in Mitchell, SD around 3 P.M. and headed towards the Amish food market where we picked up some grass fed beef to grill later on. And then a stop at the Corn Palace to see what the new 2013 facade might look like. Now that the corn crop is in, the work on the exterior has begun in earnest. The place looked a bit more interesting than the millions of corn stalks we’ve seen for the past 600 miles. A word about the corn state—91 octane ethanol is 10 cents a gallon cheaper here than 89 Octane regular gasoline.
We camped at the Lake Mitchell’s Campgrounds which is run by a nice couple who have the concession from the city which owns the camp. The camp was built by the WPA in the 1930’s. Our site overlooked the large lake and Apollo finally got his swimming in.

Joanne and Mitch, Love your blog! So nice to see where you guys are.
Apollo looks happy. But, gotta say, nothing beats Jersey white corn. Sorry Iowa!
