We left Glacier in the morning and picked Apollo up at Pawsitively Perfect. He had such a good time he didn’t want to leave. We made a pit stop at an RV service place in Spokane, WA, to get an oil change and a car wash, and to purchase a latch for one of the cabinets. We than headed north to the Grand Coulee Dam which many call the “8th Wonder of the World.” In contrast to the natural wonders we have seen, the GCD is an ode to the 20th century industrial era. Coulee and a number of other dams on the Columbia River provide much of the electricity for the region.

We stayed in a nearby RV park in Electric City. The next morning on the way to the dam we were sidetracked at a small museum run by the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. Here one gets a different perspective from the GCD Visitor Center. On the one hand the dam provided tremendous economic growth to the northwest region. On the other, it cut off a major source of salmon to the native tribes and dealt yet another severe blow to the tribal way of life.
