The next day we headed for the Gulf of Mexico and found a very nice campground in Mustang State Park which lies between Padre Island and Port Aransas. Here the temperature was in the high 80’s and it was sunny and humid. Our campsite was located off the beach just beyond the dunes.  In the morning we were treated to a fabulous sunrise over the ocean and in the evening we just had to turn around for the  sunset. The beauty of this park is its  lack of development even though it is located in the southwestern rim of the “Redneck Riviera.” We spent our time exploring the beach and having a picnic on the beach in Port Aransas. We chose not to swim because of the large numbers of jellyfish in the waters.
