We headed northwest to Massey Ontario which is right off the Transcontinental Highway 17. Once Mitch puts his foot to the pedal it is hard to get him to pull over but this time even he couldn’t resist. Fish and chips is one of our favorites and Pointe au Baril Station is known for this delicious treat. The fish is lake whitefish caught in the Georgian Bay. Whitefish is a prime catch for anglers throughout Ontario.
After chowing down we hit the road again and a few hours later arrived at the Chutes Provincial Park in Massey. The Park is located on the River Aux Sables which was a major artery for loggers in the 19th and first half of the 20th Century. Lumbermen upriver dumped logs into the River which carried them down to Massey, where they were transported by horse drawn wagons and loaded on Columbia Pacific rail cars. The name “chutes” refers to the waterway system that was built to prevent log jams. We hiked along the river and viewed the “chutes” which are a series of fast moving rapids and waterfalls. The changing colors of the fall leaves made the scene even more dramatic.

So much beautiful open space Enjoy!
