We kept our comfortable campsite at Lake Louise and set off for a day trip to Takakkaw Falls, which at 254 meters is one of the highest waterfalls in Canada. Fed by the Waputik Ice Field, in the Spring it is a roaring waterfall. During the winter Takakkaw, which in Cree means “The Magnificent,” is reduced to a thin ribbon of ice. What we saw was still impressive. Because you stand beneath it and the cliff wall is so steep, the water appears to “fall” from the sky.
On our way back we stopped at Moraine Lake, which is smaller and less grand than Lake Louise, but the teal color of the water, is unbelievably gorgeous. Some visitors prefer Moraine to its big sister. We saw a young couple in a canoe dressed in their wedding garb posing for their wedding shoot.
