We headed west to Clifden, the capital of Connemara, where we stayed at the Buttermilk Farm B&B, a well ordered, comfortable establishment that was a five minute walk both from the downtown and the famous Sky Road. When we got up in the morning we were pleased to see the sun shining. First thing, we paid a visit to the local “tyre” place and ordered a replacement for the blown out one. We then took a nice, albeit muddy but beautiful hike that went parallel to the famous 7 mile Sky Road and then afterwards relaxed in the downtown. We scoped out the pubs and restaurants, and visited the local butcher to find out what exactly went into making black and white pudding, which we had seen on all the breakfast menus along with baked beans. In the evening we enjoyed some Irish music. The next morning we packed a day bag and caught an early morning ferry in Cleggan for Inishboffin Island.
Joanne started looking for Leprechauns in all the lush places.
Enjoying the sun at the end of the day.
Someone had a Morgan.
Mitch checks out E.J. Kings.
We visited one of the several butchers on the street.
Black pudding contains fresh pigs blood, salt, steel cut oatmeal, suet, yellow onions, milk, fresh ground pepper, and allspice. White pudding leaves out the blood. Bake it in loaves and slice. Fry the slices in butter. Not for Mitch.
The pub scene where music is terrific and the Guinness is served 24/7. Kids hang out with the adults.
